Pet Soft Tissue and Orthopedic Surgery

We perform common soft tissue surgeries such as spays, neuters, declaws, hernia repairs, growth removals, and exploratory surgeries. We also perform several orthopedic surgeries, including cranial cruciate ligament repairs (ACL tears) and long bone fractures. We use a pulse oximeter to monitor the oxygen saturation of tissues and heart rate, as well as monitor the patient’s vital signs, like respiration.

  • Pre-anesthetic bloodwork: Pre-anesthetic bloodwork allows us to verify the internal health status of your pet before surgery. Identifying underlying medical problems such as anemia, kidney disease, and liver disease, diabetes, or an infection minimizes anesthetic risks.
  • Intravenous fluids: An IV catheter allows direct venous access during surgery, providing numerous benefits. It prevents dehydration, particularly while abdominal or thoracic contents are exposed to room air. It also prevents and helps manage the low blood pressure that anesthetic agents often cause. Finally, in case of an emergency, there is immediate access to the bloodstream if life-saving drugs and medications are needed.
  • Surgical laser: We have a carbon dioxide laser for optional use that replaces the scalpel generally used in soft tissue surgical procedures.

Our surgery suite has a pass-through window built into one wall. The window allows for viewing the surgical procedure while maintaining a sterile environment. There are also many surgical supplies and emergency drugs stored here for quick and easy access while in the middle of a procedure.
